After competing professionally in over 400 triathlons, two-time Ironman World Champion Scott Tinley retired from his first career and settled into a second career of writing and education. Even so, he maintained his lifestyle as an athlete, enjoying many outdoor activities. His hip, however, started to hold him back. Constant wear and tear of triathlon, continuing even after pain appeared, finally caused the arthritis to get too bad. His pain seriously limited his ability to do the activities he wanted. Although choosing to have surgery is a difficult decision, for Scott, selecting a BIRMINGHAM HIP Resurfacing (BHR) was the easy part. "Just the very idea of retaining 90% of your natural bone structure and the innate articulation was key. The very thought of having my femur cut apart was very distasteful. I looked at the success rates of the BHR and read as much of the data that I could. The BHR became such an obvious answer for me because it allowed me to continue an athletic lifestyle and offered future orthopedic options as well. In so many areas of consideration, it just made sense." Scott is back surfing, paddle boarding and many other activities. Individual results may vary. |
